PhD Student (Microbiology/Immunology) - Curtis Suttle Lab

I received my bachelor's & master degree in Molecular Biology (Genomics) at the California State University East Bay in Hayward, California in September of 2009.

Prior to coming, to UBC to work on the MARS-Life project & PLRP project, I ran a genomic sequencing core unit in the Stephen R. Quake Lab through HHMI at Stanford University Palo Alto, California. My research interests include extremophiles, host-viral interactions and viral metagenomics.

The goal of my thesis work is to use genetic characterization (ultra deep DNA sequencing) to describe and identify the microbes critical for driving the formation chemistry of the structures found in Pavilion & Kelly Lake. We (Suttle lab along with Jennifer Biddle & Steven Pointing) will attempt to describe the bacteria, archaea, viruses/phages & protists and their interactions that allows for complex community structures that drives formation chemistry.
