Gary lives and works in Vancouver BC. He was born in PEI and grew up in New Brunswick where he began SCUBA diving in 1975 off the shores of the Bay of Fundy. He is a a Registered Psychologist in the province of British Columbia and listed in the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He is in full-time private practice with a focus on performance problems, anxiety and trauma. He is an EMDRIA Certified Consultant in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a comprehensive approach for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and an EMDR training facilitator.
For many years he was on the Safety Committee for the Underwater Council of British Columbia and was research director of the Abacus Dive Project. He served as consulting psychologist to IANTD Canada and the Canadian Deep Wrecking Crew (a technical diving exploration team). He has published a couple of academic journal articles on diving and presented on the psychological aspects of diving at medical, technical diving, dive safety seminars and conferences. As part of his clinical practice, he works with divers who are have trouble as a result of panic episodes, injury, dive-related fears or have been involved in a dive fatality.
